The story
Kajari Teej is a monsoon-season women's festival observed mainly in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and adjoining regions. It falls after Raksha Bandhan and takes its name from the kajari folk-song tradition, whose lyrics often speak of rain clouds, separation, longing, family affection and the return to the parental home during the rains. Worship commonly focuses on Goddess Parvati or Teej Mata and on prayers for marital well-being. Women may fast, apply mehndi, dress festively and gather to sing kajari songs, giving the day a strong link with rural monsoon culture as well as religious devotion. In some communities a neem tree or branch is ritually worshipped, while local customs shape the foods, songs and manner of breaking the fast.

Fasting
