The story
Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is associated with King Suketuman and Queen Shaibya of Bhadravati, who had wealth and a stable kingdom but no child. The king became deeply troubled about the future of his family and the continuation of ancestral rites. One day he rode into the forest and reached a beautiful lake where a group of sages were staying. They told him that the day was Putrada Ekadashi and advised him to observe the fast and worship Vishnu with sincere prayer. Suketuman followed their guidance, broke the fast properly on Dwadashi and returned home. The traditional katha says the queen later conceived and gave birth to a worthy son. The story reflects the older social importance attached to lineage, but its wider devotional theme is hope during prolonged disappointment and seeking grace through disciplined prayer rather than despair.
