The story
Kalki Jayanti is dedicated to Kalki, the future and final avatar in the traditional Dashavatara sequence of Vishnu. Unlike the other avatar festivals, it does not commemorate an event believed to have already occurred. Puranic descriptions place Kalki at the end of Kali Yuga, when social and moral order has deeply declined. He is envisioned as a radiant warrior, often shown riding a white horse and carrying a sword, who defeats destructive forces and prepares the world for the renewal of dharma and the beginning of a new age. The observance therefore looks forward rather than backward. Devotees worship Vishnu, read passages concerning Kalki and reflect on the idea that decline is not permanent: truth and ethical order can be restored. The imagery has developed differently across texts and art, but the central theme is the cyclical renewal of dharma.
