The story
Labh Chaturthi is a Gujarati observance connected with the auspicious reopening of work and trade after the Diwali and New Year holidays. Families and traders worship Ganesha and Lakshmi, revisit the account books sanctified during Chopda Puja, and may formally resume shops, offices or commercial transactions. In some traditions the day is also associated with Ganesha Chaturthi worship and is regarded as a favourable time for beginning a venture or making the first transaction of the new year. Its meaning is not simply the pursuit of profit: the auspicious 'labh' sought is prosperity that comes through orderly work, right conduct and blessings at the start of a fresh business cycle.
