In short
Fifty thousand camels in a dune town, ending in a bathe on Kartik Purnima.
The story
Pushkar has the only significant Brahma temple in India and a lake that tradition says formed where a lotus fell from his hand. The fair is two things at once: a livestock market that runs for about a week before the purnima, mostly camels and horses, and a bathing festival on the purnima itself. The traders leave; the pilgrims arrive.
Why it matters
The market half is what the photographs are of and the bathing half is what the date is for. Both are old, and the fair only makes sense as the two together.
