The formation of modern Rajasthan was not a single-day event; it unfolded through several stages beginning in 1948. On 30 March 1949, the princely states of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaisalmer joined the earlier union to form Greater Rajasthan, making the date a central milestone in the state's political unification. Further adjustments continued afterward, but 30 March became Rajasthan's foundation day. Celebrations highlight the region's long history and its distinctive traditions in architecture, miniature painting, folk music, dance, crafts, desert life and martial heritage. State programmes, cultural performances, exhibitions and public ceremonies honour both the integration process and the communities that shaped Rajasthan's shared identity from many former kingdoms and regions.
