The story
Rav Rechi Mata's temple stands at Rapar in eastern Kutch, and the fair on Bhadrapad sud satam draws the Rabari, Ahir and Koli families of the region for three days. It is a trading fair for horses and cattle as much as a temple fair, and in a district where livestock is the working capital that is not a side attraction. Rabari families come in their own dress and the embroidery is not a display.
Why it matters
One of Kutch's two or three surviving large fairs, and it survives because it is still economically useful and not only devotional.
