The story
Sita Navami, also called Janaki Navami, celebrates the appearance of Goddess Sita. The Ramayana tells that King Janaka of Mithila found an infant girl while ploughing a field as part of preparations for a sacred rite; because she emerged from the furrow, she was named Sita. Janaka and Queen Sunayana raised her as their daughter, and she later married Lord Rama after he lifted and strung Shiva's great bow at her swayamvara. Sita's life in the Ramayana—her devotion, courage during exile, endurance in Lanka and steadfast commitment to dharma—made her an enduring ideal of strength as well as fidelity. Devotees remember her on Vaishakha Shukla Navami and pray for harmony, dignity and resilience in family life.
