The story
Akshaya Navami, also known as Amla Navami, is observed on Kartik Shukla Navami and links the idea of ‘akshaya’—that which does not diminish—with worship, charity and the amla tree. Vaishnava traditions also connect the period with the sacred geography of Braj and with parikrama or pilgrimage. In many households the amla tree is worshipped as a life-giving, medicinal and auspicious presence; families may prepare or share a meal near the tree and offer food to others. The day falls during the spiritually important bright fortnight of Kartik, between the Diwali season and later Kartik observances such as Devuthani Ekadashi and Tulsi Vivah. Its religious meaning therefore combines gratitude for nature, acts believed to produce enduring merit, and the cultivation of generosity rather than accumulation for oneself.
